Teacher illness
The silent cry of contemporary education
Abstract
Dear readers, the sixth issue of the Revista de Estudos Pedagógicos do Cariri (Review of Pedagogical Studies of Cariri) appears at a critical moment in Brazilian education, as we witness a silent crisis plaguing our schools: the growing illness of education professionals. This phenomenon, which can no longer be ignored, reveals itself as a symptom of profound social transformations that have redefined contemporary educational dynamics. The alarming data on sick leave, absences due to psychological disorders, and the growing number of teachers undergoing treatment for burnout syndrome highlight a disturbing reality. The school environment, once recognized as a space for the construction of knowledge and values, has become a scene of extreme tensions that compromise not only the physical and mental health of educators, but the very quality of the educational process.
